It was just a play. Or was it? My daughter auditioned for the play Annie, Jr. in November and landed the leading role of Ms. Hannigan! Being her #1 fan, I wanted to help make this play the best it could be! With an open heart to serve, I surrendered my will to do the will of the Father and was led to work on the sets for the play. Unexpectedly, I slowly began to realize that I played a part in God’s divine story that went way beyond the boundaries of Annie, Jr. In Revelations 12, it says that we are overcomers by the blood of the lamb and the words of our testimony. I have prayed and prayed for days now that the Holy Spirit would enable me to put into words the power and glory of God displayed through this play.
One of the biggest fears I faced was praying for people and they wouldn’t be healed. On Friday, February 5th at 4:00am, exactly one week before the opening night performance, God began stirring my heart to release a prophetic word over the CYT (Christian Youth Theater) community. This was a HUGE leap of faith for me. I stepped into courage and professed boldly in an email, “There is going to be mighty wind of strength that is going to blow over this entire CYT family! There is going to be miraculous healings taking place in people's bodies especially our backs! So if anyone has been experiencing pain in their back, get ready for your healing!! God has our backs!”
In faith, I hit the send button and walked in God’s promise to trust in the Lord with all my heart and lean not on my own understandings. On that Friday morning, I drove to Baton Rouge to the warehouse to finishing painting the Annie sets and mysterious things began to happen…
On Friday night, someone working on the sets received a call about a very tragic accident that happened and immediately we began to pray over the situation. God had her back and she was able to usher in the peace of Christ to her family in very horrible circumstances. On Saturday night, one of the people helping with the sets all day began to have severe back pains. I heard God stirring me to pray for her, so obediently I did in the parking lot of Walgreens. She felt a healing power come over her and we praised God! To this day, she reports no pain after suffering with years of numbness and pain in her back! The next day, Sunday, moving day, we were at the warehouse about to leave for the theater and someone came running to me saying to hurry and come to the costume room. A woman was standing there weeping and crying out for a healing in her back and legs. Five of us began praying for her and she received healing in her body. A few days later, a group of ladies came running up to me on the stage of Shaver Theater with a teenager experiencing back issues and sickness in her body. We prayed over her right there on stage and a powerful healing ran through her body! The following day right before the first school performance, someone came running to me that there was an emergency. I ran to find two beautiful children desperate to know that their Daddy in Heaven had their backs! They were weeping over a lie that their daddy didn’t love them. We prayed over them a spirit of adoption and they were set free of an orphaned spirit. The next day, we had one of our set team dads in extreme back pain and we prayed healing over him. During the Sunday performance one of the main actors hurt her ankle. At intermission, we prayed for God to heal her and his grace be upon her. As I laid my hands on her ankle, a heat began to pour out into her body. She was able to walk, dance and finish the play! God was very clear that he had her back! After the Sunday performance the teenage girl who was healed on Friday came running to find me to pray over another back to be healed. We prayed over her and a powerful emotional healing happened! She had a soul-tie to a very dear friend that committed suicide just three weeks ago. As soon as it was broken, she instantly felt a release in her neck and upper back!
Every one of those healings were so different and so divine. For the first time in my life, I had complete freedom and abounding faith to do my part and pray. I believed that God had MY back. I believed that He would heal each one of them. I believed in His power to use His children to display His glory in miracles, signs and wonders. I witnessed the body of Christ working together in unison with an unending love for people like I had never witnessed before! Every person I encountered was glowing with the glory of God and the peace of Christ. As Michelle Braud put it so beautifully in Sunday’s message, “Our availability gave God the opportunity to do a miracle through us.”
In each healing prayer prayed, God continued to remind me to share with them a powerful word. In pain, there is a dependence. When we are in pain, we cry out. If you are like me when I am in pain, I pray. For over 20 years of my life, I had excruciating stomach issues and lower back pain. I had test after test after test but no diagnosis or treatment ever brought me to a place of being pain free. About 8 years ago I began reading my Bible for the first time in my life. When I would read His word the pain would subside. I began reading it with my children and my husband and slowly and gradually the pain became less and less. I didn’t realize it at the time, but God was drawing me near to Him through the pain. God wants for us to remain in dependence on Him even when the pain is gone.
God’s will for each one of us to be whole, and He is restoring us “back” to the Garden of Eden. Jesus said, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children.” We are all God’s children and we can’t be stopped! We are no longer slaves to fear, we are children of God. I am a miracle. You are a miracle. Be available for God to be a miracle to someone through us.
